| stuff to do in Wuhan, China by Joshua Shuller | | Hello, Wuhan (as of 2010) | | |
|
Yellow Crane Tower
| A famous and historic tower with a nice view and souvinir shops. The Yellow Crane Tower is a symbol of Wuhan. And being as such, is probably the best place to go if you are short on time.
| East Lake
| Wuhan's East Lake is a great place for outdoor activities. Covering an area of 33 square km of clean water, it has been designated as one of the 4A tourist zones in 2000. Here, you can find some activities such as going for a boat ride, playing games, shooting bows and arrows, fishing, cycling, hiking, eating, and just enjoying the weather in general.
| Tortoise Mountain and TV Tower
| Tortoise Mountain has a TV tower on it, which is visible from most of Wuhan. You can go up to top of the TV tower. Also on tortoise moutain are a few other things - like bungee jumping and a cable car to Hankou accross the Han-Jiang river. This is a good place for a walk, and has good scenery of the rivers and lakes of Wuhan.
| Lute Terrace
| A park with a nice lake and nice area for enjoying the weather. There is also a tourist area and a souvenir shop inside of a museum-type area, for which there is a small fee. According to legend, Yu Boya was on a boat passing by Wuhan when his boat sank. When he came ashore, he wrote a song about the beautiful mountains and lakes etc, and thus met his "bosom-buddy" friend Zhong Ziqi. When Zhong Ziqi died, Yu Boya played for the last time over the grave of Zhong Ziqi, then smashed his lute because the only person able to appreciate his music was dead.
| Qing-chuan Bridge Area
| This bridge is called the Qing-chuan bridge. Also sometimes called Rainbow Bridge. Right next to it is the site where the Han-jiang river intersects with the Yang-tze river, and from there, a small peninsula area, you can see the water in the two rivers collide. The entire area also has a park where you can walk or jog or whatnot.
| Jiang-han Road
| The best shopping area in Wuhan. Most of the stores are somewhat generic though, but nearby also has a Wal-mart, and a couple other malls with good stuff. It is a little like Nanjing East Road in Shanghai. They have a few hotels here, but they do not seem to match up to the Holiday Inns, Marco Polo, nor the Howard Johnson for quality. | Gu De Temple
| First built in 3rd year of Guangxu, Qing dynasty (1887). Original name "Gude hut". It is famous for its interesting architecture. According to Wuhan city, its main hall now is the only Buddhist temple of the Burmese Ananda style in China and one of the two existing temples of such a style in the world. | Cafe Brussels
| A bar whose boss is from Belgium, with good Belgian beer, good Belgian food, and other western food. Its a nice place to spend some time.
| Hankou Riverside Park
| A nice park right next to the Yang-tze river where hundreds of locals like to go fly a kite. This park also has riverboat tours of the city, a swimming pool, childrens playground, KTV bars, and more. |

My name is Joshua Shuller, and I'm a software engineer.
Thank you for visiting my "Stuff to do in Wuhan" page.
Wuhan is a special city. It has the Yang-tze and the Han-jiang rivers intersecting here, to form three distinctly traffic-jammed parts
of the city.
After living in Wuhan, China for a couple of months, it has become
clear that there are not a lot of really exciting places. Being from the American mid-west, I can understand that.
However, there are a few places worth mentioning, and I wanted to make a map of them to show other
people what to expect when they come here.
